I originally bought this because of the crazy Californian restriction/prohibition on windshield mounted devices. In hindsight, it was better than the windshield sucker mount that came with the unit. When I tried placing it in the middle of the dashboard of my rented car, it held its position well even while I went around corners (albeit without any sharp cornering involved). It was best employed when I tried placing it on the left edge of my windshield between the car door and the instrument cluster so as to give me the maximal view out of my windshield. The Garmin nuvi 775T I bought attached firmly and solidly onto this item and could be easily detached and the mount disassembled when it came time to stow it after a journey.

I recently took a very long road trip and of course had many stops along the way. The friction mount was great because all I had to do was move it out of sight when I needed to stop. No disassembly or suction marks on the windshield so thieves had no idea it was in my suv.

The Garmin Portable Friction Mount lets me use the unit in a safe manner without any of that tell-tale suction marks on the window that invite thieves to break into my car. It's extremely versital and the intial placement of the unit cab easily be changed when necessary. This has added much to my enjoyment of my GPS.

This is just what we were looking for since we did not want to mount our GPS with suction cups on the windshield and it is so easy to move from one vehicle to the other.

This is a stable GPS mount that has a very good friction bottom (very little to no sliding on dash). No adhesive or velcro peranently attached to the dash (or elsewhere), no suction cup to wear out. Easy to remove from car when not in use or place out of sight in parking lots.
After buying one for myself, I bought one as a Christmas present and it was highly appreciated as a gift.
Maybe a little expensive, but I've felt it was worth buying.
