Its extreme portability means it travels wherever you do, so you'll never miss an opportunity. Superior picture quality allows you to relive all the sights and sounds of your trip just as you remembered them, with rich, vibrant color and crisp detail, without even leaving your living room. Although vacations can't last a lifetime, the Elura 50 guarantees a journey back anytime you choose. The Elura 50 offers the superior quality of digital video, the ability to take XGA digital photos (1024 X 768) and store them on a MultiMediaCard or SD Memory Card, as well as the optional capability of making prints without connection to a computer. The Elura 50 also gives you an extensive selection of digital effects, automatic and manual controls, and offers quick and easy connection to your computer. Digital Video Format and IEEE 1394 - The Canon Elura 50 is a digital video camcorder using the standard MiniDV cassette. It produces the highest quality video possible from non-broadcast equipment. The MiniDV format standard delivers more than 500 lines of horizontal resolution. This is about a 25% improvement in picture quality over the best analog formats. On top of that, because it records both video and audio as digital data, this information can be transferred -- without any loss of picture or audio quality -- to a computer for editing and then transferred back to DV tape without a reduction in either picture or audio quality. All of this is through the use of the IEEE 1394 protocol commonly known as FireWire. 680,000 Pixels CCD - To capture high quality video, the Elura 50 uses a 680,000-pixel CCD. This also allows the Elura 50 be used as a digital still camera to take high resolution photos. Image Stabilizer - Don't miss a shot -- even if you're shooting hand-held, at full telephoto, or while you're on the move. Canon's superb Image Stabilization system compensates for camcorder shake instantly, making your videos look steady and natural. Unlike other brands, Canon's Image Stabilization is effective even while panning and zooming. Genuine Canon Optics - The Elura 50 sports a 10X optical zoom lens combined with a 400X digital zoom. This zoom range will more than take care of all your picture-taking needs, whether it's wide-angle shots of all the family at the reunion, or close-up sports action at full telephoto. Combine this zoom with the high-resolution capability of DV and you have high quality video at your fingertips. DIGIC DV - DIGIC DV is a system for achieving superior video and photographic quality images. Canon's expertise in imaging and electronics is flawlessly blended together, resulting in outstanding performance. It offers substantial benefits in color reproduction. DIGIC DV makes it possible to achieve accurate color for both video and digital photos. Since video and photos have different color requirements, DIGIC DV utilizes two different color techniques to maximize video quality on a TV and still image quality for print or computer display. Shooting Modes - You can save both video and digital still images to the Elura 50's cassette. You can also save high resolution photos, as well as Motion JPEGs, to a MultiMediaCard or SD Memory Card. Video Mode - Video Mode delivers smooth, full-motion video for playback on your TV. You can also transfer the video onto your computer to view, edit, post on the Internet, or send to friends. XGA High Resolution Photos - In addition to high quality video, the Elura 50 captures outstanding digital photos. All it takes is a single press of the photo button to shoot crisp XGA (1024 x 768-pixel) images on the camcorder's Memory Card. Digital Photo Mode - You can make your Elura 50 a still camera by switching to Photo Mode. Just press the photo button to capture more than 700 still pictures on a single videocassette (in SP mode). Motion JPEG - It's easy to record Motion JPEG video clips that are perfect for sending to friends and family via e-mail, or for posting on the Web. Using Elura 50's memory card, you can record up to 10 seconds at 320 x 240 pixels or up to 30 seconds at 160 x 120 pixels. Ultra-Compact Design - Weighing a mere 13.4 ounces, the Elura 50 is slim enough to fit in your pocket, making it perfect for traveling. Don't let its size fool you; the Elura 50 features Canon exclusive imaging technology to capture exceptional superb quality video and photos. MultiMediaCard / SD Memory Card Capability - For the storage of digital photos and Motion JPEG Movie clips, you can use either MultiMediaCards or SD Memory cards. An 8MB SD memory card is provided with the Elura 50. Thanks to Canon's ultra-fast memory card access time, you can capture your next image without waiting a long time. The memory card also comes with sample images that you can use when recording video. Use these images and the Card Mix Effects to add another dimension to your video memories with picture frames, backgrounds, and animations. Color Viewfinder and 2.0" LCD Screen - The Elura 50 offers both a color viewfinder and a 2-inch fold-out color LCD screen. For those who prefer a larger screen for composing videos, the fold-out screen makes it easy. Because it twists and can be flipped, you can shoot your video from any angle without having to look in the viewfinder. The screen also is great for sharing video with others just after you've captured a scene. Progressive Photo - The Elura 50 camcorder offers Progressive Photo. A mechanical shutter used in combination with an interlace scan CCD produces still images with very little blurring. With an interlace scan CCD, a picture of a moving object will be blurred because of the 1/60th of a second lag between the reading of the odd and even fields that go into making one video frame. With Progressive Photo, this blurring has all but been removed because the time lag has been eliminated by the mechanical shutter. Direct Print - Turn your images into prints in seconds -- without a computer! A single cable connects the Elura 50 camcorder with Canon Card Photo Printers CP-10 (Item Code: 6854A024) and select Canon Bubble Jet Printers. All printing options can be controlled directly from the camcorder's LCD Screen. Options include: selecting the print quantity, cropping, and whether you would like bordered or borderless prints. Programmed Auto Exposure - The Elura 50 offers the versatility to meet all exposure challenges and ease of use when you'd like to let the camera make all the choices. Amazingly sophisticated circuitry delivers proper exposure automatically under almost any lighting condition. But you also can easily adjust the exposure system in any one of several creative ways to meet specific needs. Selecting a different exposure mode lets you control how you want the video to look. Manual Controls - Using a dial on the camera body, you can manually control the camcorder's settings.Manual Focus - Using a dial on the camera body, you can manually focus the lens.Manual Exposure - For fine exposure control, you have access to +/-7 steps of exposure compensation.Manual and Automatic Shutter Speeds - There are 8 shutter speeds (from 1/60 sec. to 1/2000 sec.) available in all auto exposure modes. They may also be selected manually. Slow shutter speeds are available in Night and Low Light modes.Preset/Auto/Manual White Balance - The Elura 50 is designed to determine white balance automatically. You also can use standard preset values for indoors (3200 K) and outdoors (5600 K) or you can manually set the white balance. Manually setting the white balance is useful when shooting subjects with one dominant color such as the sky, close-ups, rapidly changing lighting conditions, and places lit by certain types of fluorescent or mercury vapor lights. DV Messenger Software - With Canon's DV Messenger software, your camcorder is your window to the world. Conduct an Internet Video Chat with family and friends by using the Elura 50 camcorder with Microsoft Windows Messenger. Share video and digital photos. Zoom and focus your camcorder, as well as the camcorder of the person you're chatting with. Preview thumbnails and transfer photos. Watch and control the video playback of either camcorder. Multi-Image Screen - Divides your display screen into four, nine, or sixteen pictures with the Digital Photo Mode. You can choose the speed at which the images are captured: Manual, Slow, Moderate, or Fast. PCM Digital Stereo Sound - The Elura 50 can record sound in two audio modes: 16-bit (48 kHz, 2 channels) for the highest sound quality -- slightly better than CD quality and equivalent to DAT tape; 12-bit (32 kHz, 2 from 4 channels) for recording on two channels (stereo 1), leaving two channels (stereo 2) open for post production audio recording (narration, music, etc.). IEEE 1394 Input and Output Terminal - The Elura 50 is designed for the transfer of digital video and audio to and from either a PC or another IEEE 1394 terminal-equipped camcorder or professional DV VCR. The DV terminal allows high quality transfer with virtually no deterioration in quality of images. You can edit and process images by connecting the camera to a PC with the IEEE 1394 terminal. As well, you can add new sound to original sound or replace original sound and images on a previously-recorded tape. VIC - Embracing the industry's latest and most sophisticated technology, Canon camcorders feature an exclusive connection circuit called VIC. VIC is a virtual powerhouse. Traditionally, multiple chips were needed to perform the camcorder's input and output functions. VIC, however, manages it all with one single chip. The result is seamless connectivity whether you are connecting to a computer, TV, or VCR. Video and Audio Inputs and Outputs - In addition to providing digital video input and output, the Elura 50 features two types of analog audio and video inputs and outputs: Composite and S-video. Video Inputs and Outputs - The Elura 50 is designed to handle two types of analog video input and output: using audio/video cables (composite) or by using an S-video cable. Composite / S-Video input and output with Analog to Digital Converter - By using audio/video cables (composite) or S-Video, it's possible to send an analog video signal from your TV, VCR or a camcorder into the Elura 50 and record it onto DV. Similarly, you can output an analog signal via composite or S-Video cables to an analog device such as a TV or VCR.Audio Inputs - The analog audio inputs of the Elura 50 let you perform dubbing or insert editing from conventional audio sources such as CDs, cassettes, microphones or the soundtracks of other videocassettes.Mic Input - In addition to using the built-in microphone on the Elura 50, you have the option of plugging in an external microphone. Audio Dub - You can add stereo sound from another audio source or through the internal or external microphone. AV Insert - The Elura 50 offers the option of adding new video from a VCR or another camcorder to a tape recorded in SP mode. Input can be digital or analog video and analog audio. Audio Outputs - Audio (and video) on a MiniDV cassette can be output to another camcorder or VCR. Audio Out - Audio output is accomplished via the same ports used for input. Video outputs include composite and S-video. Headphone Terminal (Adjustable level) - The headphone jack on the Elura 50 has a volume adjustment for monitoring sound during shooting, performing sound checks, or listening to the sound through stereo headphones during playback.
