Although the viewfinder is so small that it's hard to see the info display, the camera is so automatic I don't need it. Just shot 170 vacation pictures using this camera for the first time and quite satisfied!

In the sports mode you can actually capture every second of a bullride, every motion of a kite in flight! The shutter is so fast that you can literally make a flip book with the prints! And the images are crisp and clear. This is my first SLR camera and I'll never go back to a point and shoot again!

This has been a great camera so far, I still have a lot to master but for the most part it has been an easy camera to use, it has a lot of neat and useful features, great first time DSLR camera.

I recieved almost a year ago. I love it, very easy to use. I am not the greatest operators when it comes to taking pictures. But this, I am now taking my own pictures instead of paying someone else to do it for me!

I did lots of research since I was spending a pretty penny and I wanted to get the best choice. It pointed to this camera and I'm gald I got it. And you will also. I also purchase the flash and Zuiko lens, so they "talk"to each other and the shots prove it.

My wife and I took our kids to the circus and took our small digital compact. We were looking forward to getting good pictures,but come to find out it took terrible pictures that we hated.
So i started doing research on a camera we could buy that would do everything we wanted it to do and was simple to learn how to use, and i came across the Evolt 500 that had everthing in 1 package for a decent price.
Since we purchased this camera we have been having loads of fun learning how to take pictures and loving how great the pictures are coming out,even for us bebinners we look like we half way know what we are doing even though it is really the camera making up for our lack of experience.
So least to say i would recomend this camera to any and everyone who wants to be extemely happy with the quality of pictures you will get.

This camera is so easy to use that I literaly took it out of the box, installed a lens and started shooting. I love the sepia and black and white feature that allows you to change the picture colors right on the camera. No more downloading my pictures and editing them on the computer!I also love the sports mode. I take pictures during paintball tournaments. With my old camera the pictures were blurry. This camera takes pictures so clear that I can see the paint balls flying through the air. I recently took a picture of a paintball hitting a player. The picture was so clear that I could see the individual droplets of paint splatter. I would recommend this camera to anyone.

I have had this camera for over 2 years now and I am very happy with it. It's the best bang for the buck SLR on the market. The 2 kits lenses are metal mount, not the cheap plastic that Nikon or Canon gives you with their kits. The camera felt much better then the D50 or the Rebel XT by far. The pro line of lenses are some of the sharpest out there, just be ready to pay for what you get. Also the FL-50 Flash is the BEST flash I have ever used, worth it if you have the extra money.

Just add batteries, point and shoot !!!! Great product for your money comes with 2 lenses. Has many preset shooting modes for all kinds of situations, as well as several manuel features allowing your creativity to flow freely. Can be used by someone just starting out, with a little practice you'll be acheiving great pics in no time. Seasoned veterns will find many features and setting in the easy to navigate menus.
CONS....if there are any, I have not found them.

As a former SLR user who became lazy over the years with these pocket digitals, I was blown away by the quality, feel and easy use of this great camera and it's two quality lenses. How quickly it will all come back to you, and how quickly your old enthusiasm for great photo opportunities will arise! I feel like Olympus is telling me "welcome back, photographer!!!" with this camera.

I upgraded from a high end point and shoot digital camera to the E-500, and have been nothing but amazed. For the price and value you can't beat it. Plus you get two pretty good zoom lenses in the kit which work very well. Two great features on this camera are it's ability to use two different types of memory slots and the "dust reduction" feature. The feature causes the camera to take a few extra seconds to start up, but the technology is well worth it, as you won't spend time cleaning everytime you change the lense. The other thing I would recommed is purchase the Olympus F-36 flash, as the cameras flash is not all that great in extremely low light situations. Overall, this camera is a winner and the price makes it even better. Be sure to check out the "Scene" mode. This camera is AWESOME!

I have an old Minolta X-700 35 mm and it is now permanently retired. This DSLR has surpassed my expectations. Family and friends are amazed by the quality of photograghs that can be shot with it. It is perfect for the budding amateur. You can shoot like a pro.

groundbreaking Zuiko lenses from olympus focus 100 percent of the light passing through them onto the CCD sensor. This provides for great color saturation and amazing dynamic range. You can't beat the price for the awesome 2 lense kit.

Wife was cautious about the price, but was very impressed with the higher quality of shots of family and activities. Had to spend several days ? playing with it and learning the settings. still learning very time I use it.

Out of the box, and after a rather hefty 5 hours to charge the battery, this camera has performed well beyond expectations. I love the look and feel of the body and its light weight. All buttons and features are right where you might expect them to be - no surprises. The viewfinder focus wheel is a bit difficult to deal with, but it is also protected against accidental changes, so I would rate this as a plus overall. The large monitor on the back is clear and quite adequate. If I had my druthers, I'd like to see the monitor offset in a door as it does tend to get spotted up with prints in its current position, but this is only a minor annoyance.

So far I've put the camera through its paces and have taken test photos in all sorts of light conditions and distances. This camera has performed wonderfully! I took a close up photo, cropped and enlarged a very small portion, and expected a softening and loss of detail. But I was more than pleasantly surprised to find the cropped and enlarged image every bit as clear as the original photo! I'm in love with this camera!

Now for my wish list...I wish there was a way I could use my old (non-digital camera) lenses on this camera. However, the Zuiko lenses that come with the camera are quite adequate for out of the box use. There is a wide selection of digital specific lenses available, but all are a bit pricey. I would lament the fact I will be again searching for the "perfect" lens for every shot (and paying for them again) but then where is the fun if you wouldn't have to do that anyway?

Overall, I am MORE than pleased with this camera and would give it 4-1/2 stars if there was a way to do so! Happy shooting everyone!

I wanted to upgrade from a point and shoot. Missed too many photo ops at kids sporting event due to "digital delay". I spent last weekend at a swim meet and got hundrends of great shots. The loom lens allowed me to get very impresive shots from where I was sitting and the 8 megapixels was more than enough to allow enlarging while maintaining crisp clear picture.
This camera has more that met my expectations and have already recommended it to a friend who is planning a trip to europe.

This camera performs very well.
The kit lenses cannot be beat.
Add some high grade olympus zuiko glass and you have a winner.
note:High iso is some what of a problem
