Comments about Samsung 206BW 20" Widscreen Analog/Digital LCD Display w/Swivel and Tilt Adjustable Stand:

Many months ago, I bought a new Compaq computer which came with a flat-screen monitor as part of the package. When I installed the monitor, I was so disappointed and frustrated by the poor clarity ("fuzziness")of it over my old standard 15-inch monitor. It just drove me nuts and I gave it to a relative. I really wanted a flat screen and my son had just bought the 22-inch model of Sony's Synchmaster BW series (Synchmaster 226 BW) monitor and had installed two of them for his use as a property appraiser. When I saw these a few weeks ago, I was BOWLED OVER the how clear everything was on this very large screen! These BW Sony monitor Syncmaster LCD monitors are 3000:1 resolution and just so far superior in clarity to anything I have seen. I have had my 20-inch model now for several weeks and absolutely love it! I had read some comments about problems with the brightness, but don't understand this as it's easily adjusted. The only proplem I had was with graphics and pictures and this was not the fault of the monitor. The monitor requires a specific screen resolution and my card did not go high enough. For some reason, I had an older range model on my computer and had to have a more updated video card installed to fix the "stretched" pictures I was seeing on my screen. I understand that this problem is rare, and most computers have a card already on them that will handle the monitor's requirements just fine, so I don't think this would be a problem for most buyers. These LCD monitors have to be cleaned in a certain way to avoid damage, but this is easily learned and it can be researched in detail on the Internet. Good cleaners are commercially available, but my gurus have recommended a 50-50 mix of regular alcohol and DSITILLED water, sprayed on a cloth to clean and not on the screen itself. New owners should find out how to do this, and I found it very easy and effective. The only thing I don't like about the monitor (and this is minor) is the blue on-off light. It does not go off when you shut down the computer and it is distracting at times. Overall, I'm very happy with this monitor and would recommend it to anyone to whom a very clear screen and clear, sharp text is important.
